Washington D.C. area in the following fields:

 

Arabic Radio Announcers/Writers

The Middle East Broadcasting Networks, Inc is seeking applicants for its radio station, Radio Sawa, an international Arabic language satellite radio station, broadcasting world news and current affairs to the Middle East, seeks experienced radio announcers/writer with fluent Arabic and English language capability.

Candidates should be able to conceive, plan, research, write, produce and announce in Arabic highly targeted original radio programs and newscasts. Successful candidates will prepare programs or scripts for final review, including conceptualizing and selecting materials to be used, deciding how to line up and integrate the program or script, how to approach complex issues to provide journalistic balance, and to craft a well-paced, listenable program. Candidates will also coordinate story themes with correspondents in the Middle East and elsewhere; conduct radio interviews in Arabic and English with Arabic-speaking and English-speaking sources involved in political, economic, scientific, cultural, and other activities; and originate and voice live and recorded material for news programs, program segments and promotional material in Arabic. Employees may be subject to periodic rotation between shifts, including work on weekends.

Candidates should have at least two years of experience in radio announcing and be able to demonstrate:

  • An excellent announcing ability in Arabic with a good broadcasting voice.
  • Capability of drafting balanced news scripts.
  • Thorough knowledge of broadcast journalism required for conducting radio interviews, journalistic writing and editing principles and practices for electronic media and the skill in applying these to material used in international radio broadcasting.
  • Skill in planning and coordinating multifaceted programming and ability to meet broadcast deadlines at all times and especially when breaking news occurs.
  • Knowledge and demonstrated ability to use computers and familiarity with various software programs to write and edit in order to produce high quality material.
  • Experience with a leading news organization in the region.
  • Broad knowledge of Middle Eastern history and culture, and awareness of political, economic, and social developments in the region.

Arabic Website Editors/Writers

The Radio Sawa Arabic language website (radiosawa.com) is looking for senior editors and writers to manage website content and administer daily operations of its website.

These positions require three + years experience in Arabic news writing and editing skills including the following skills and knowledge background:

  • Demonstrating a well informed understanding in Middle East, international, and U.S. domestic news and current developments.
  • Selecting, translating and editing news from the Radio Sawa newsroom and wire services.
  • Skills in the Arabic and English languages and thorough practical knowledge of Arabic grammar.
  • Technical capabilities in the use of the computer and Internet.
  • Strong Arabic typing skills.
  • Ability to work under deadline pressure and flexibility to work in morning, evening or night shifts in a 24/7 work environment.
